Reykholt

Illustrations for Snorrastofa, a cultural and medieval centre founded in memory of Iceland's greatest medieval writer, poet, scholar and statesman, Snorri Sturluson (1179- 1241). Snorrastofa is situated in Snorri's ancient homestead at Reykholt and manages various research projects, a library and provides reception and information for tourists.
No one knows exactly what Snorri's homestead looked like during his time, but an archaeological dig around the turn of the last century gave a more rounded picture of Reykholt's medieval architecture. The illustrations depict the excavations on Snorri's farmstead and north of the farmstead on the site of Reykholt's old churches.
